INVITATION TO POST-ESOF PRESS TRIP TO JOINT RESEARCH CENTRE (JRC) AT ISPRA 7-9 JULY 2010
Discover how the JRC's research work supports EU policies for sustainable growth & development and safety & security
Ispra, 7 - 9 July 2010
Decision makers need scientific and technical support not only in the formulation of new policies, but also for their subsequent implementation and final impact evaluation. The JRC has developed special skills and tools to provide scientific and technical support throughout the complete policy cycle. Its activities in areas such as energy, environment, nuclear safety, security and crisis management as well as consumer protection and food safety are also very close to concerns of the citizen.
The JRC is a Directorate General of the European Commission and employs around 2700 staff in seven different research institutes located in five different countries. The small town of Ispra in Northern Italy (Lake Maggiore) hosts the biggest JRC site, which is also the third largest site of the European Commission, after Brussels and Luxembourg. Scientists coming from all over Europe work here on a broad range of environmental, consumer protection and security related topics. For example they define strategies to save energy, develop safety standards for products or early warning systems for natural disasters and provide assistance in humanitarian crises.
This two day visit programme will allow participants to gain insights into many research activities of prime importance for Europe and to discover JRC's role in the European policy making process. There will be ample interviewing possibilities with top scientists.
